EXCENTRIC — Visual Identity & Communication Ecosystem
A dynamic system designed for European cultural transformation

Design & Art Direction: Amal Al-Shahari
Client: KEA / Horizon Europe
Year: 2025
EXCENTRIC is a Horizon Europe-funded project that places culture at the heart of civic innovation.
It brings together artists, researchers, policy-makers, technologists, and citizens to explore how cultural engagement, digital technologies, and data can work together to empower communities
and shape more inclusive futures.

Through collaborative pilot actions, artistic practices, and public-facing initiatives such as festivals and events, EXCENTRIC activates cultural spaces — physical and digital — as places for imagination, experimentation, and participation.

The project focuses on human-centred design and cultural transformation, using data not
as an abstract resource, but as a creative and civic tool.

This visual identity system was created to support that mission. It provides a flexible
and recognisable foundation for communication, allowing diverse partners across Europe
to speak with a shared voice without losing their local character.
The EXCENTRIC logo expresses energy, connectivity, and movement.
A flowing orange to pink gradient symbolises momentum, creativity, and collaboration — capturing the dynamic exchanges between data, people, and places.
This visual identity was developed as a complete communication and branding system — not just
a logo, but a full set of tools designed to support collaboration, visibility, and cultural storytelling.

It includes a flexible colour palette, scalable typographic system, custom illustrations and icons, and ready-to-use templates for social media, print, and institutional formats.
The system adapts to the needs of a multi-partner project by balancing clarity with creativity.
It enables diverse teams to express their local identity while remaining connected through
a common visual language.
The visual identity uses a vibrant yet accessible colour palette combined with an open-source typographic system.
Together, they create consistency and clarity across a broad spectrum of materials — from event posters to research publications.
The human-centred illustration style reflects EXCENTRIC’s commitment to cultural experimentation, community empowerment and digital creativity.
These visuals translate abstract values like openness, connection and inclusion into relatable visual cues — supporting the project’s goal to make data and culture more accessible to citizens.

The modular icon set supports consistency and clarity across both print and digital applications, ensuring each element of communication remains recognisable and adaptable.
A full suite of adaptable communication tools was developed to bring the identity to life.

From editable Word and PowerPoint templates to Canva kits for social media and print-ready flyers and posters, each asset was built to support practical use while maintaining visual consistency.
These tools enable EXCENTRIC’s partners to activate the brand across a wide range of contexts — from local initiatives to pan-European campaigns.
